I was always hesitant of Twitter before joining. I thought: “who on earth cares what I’m doing every 2 minutes?!” But it’s not like that. I tend to use Twitter as a soapbox of sorts and way to connect socially with those I normally would not have the opportunity to. If you’re curious, here’s my handle: https://twitter.com/creidphoto
One day, I stumbled across Shannon’s twitter page and a list of all the books she loves…. in the form of a tattoo. I thought to myself: “That’s pretty interesting and I like the a lot of the same books she does! I shall message her a kind hello.”
Upon digging further I learned she was getting married in May and in need of a photographer too! I soon found out that Shannon & Matt were getting married in Ottawa, but then again I’ve always wanted to shoot in Ottawa, so it was a win. Turns out Shannon and Matt are probably some of the most coolest people I’ve met. They’re relaxed, fun and have a wicked sense of humour.
You’ll notice a few images feature Matt & Shannon reading Choke by Chuck Palahniuk (the guy who wrote Fight Club). It’s the book that brought them closer together. I’ll let Shannon’s blog post explain the story in detail here. In fact, I was so inspired by this story that even I’ve picked up this book for my summer reading! I can’t wait to see what all the fuss is about!
I should mention that I thought the only non-denominational “church-like” venue for weddings was The Berkeley Church, but apparently Ottawa Ontario has something just like it called Saint Brigid’s Centre for the Arts. Formerly a Roman Catholic Church in the 1800’s, it now serves as a beautiful venue in the most historic section of Ottawa – near the Rideau Canal. This place gives you that cathedral feel, without the religious obligations and it has a lovely stone walled basement for a small reception. I would LOVE to shoot here again & again!
